The AI message is the default, not the limit. An alarm can just as easily be your own words, or a sound you already love.
- Type your own script and hear it read back in any of the ten voices — word for word, with no AI rewrite.
- Use the audio from a video you've saved to your photo library. The sound is pulled out on your device; the video never leaves your phone.
- Name your sounds and reuse them. One clip can back as many alarms as you like.

There is no account, because there is no server.
StartSmart has no sign-up, no password and no user database. Your alarms, your goals, your streaks and your generated audio live on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them.
Your voice stays on the phone
Speaking to dismiss an alarm runs through Apple's on-device speech framework. The audio is never recorded, never stored and never sent anywhere.
What does leave
Your goal text goes to the AI that writes the script, and that script goes to the text-to-speech provider. Neither receives your name, your email or any identifier for you.

We advertise StartSmart, and we measure which ads work. iOS asks your permission before any advertising identifier is shared, and declining costs you nothing in the app.

Will it ring if the app is closed?
Yes. StartSmart schedules alarms through Apple's AlarmKit, so the alarm sounds from the lock screen with the phone locked and the app closed — including force-quit. Your personalized audio is installed as that alarm's own sound, so it plays there too, and the full-length version plays when you open the app.
Which iPhones does it work on?
Any iPhone running iOS 26 or later. That floor is not arbitrary — AlarmKit, the Apple framework that lets an alarm ring reliably from the lock screen, arrived in iOS 26. There is no iPad or Android version.
Does it cost anything?
StartSmart requires an active subscription — there is no free tier. The current plans, the price in your local storefront, and any free trial are shown in the App Store and in the app before you are charged. Billing and cancellation are handled by Apple; the mechanics are set out in the terms of service.
What happens if the AI message isn't ready?
The alarm still rings. StartSmart generates and caches your audio ahead of time, but if a script hasn't rendered — no network overnight, say — the alarm falls back to a standard tone rather than staying silent. A wake-up with a plain tone is a bad morning; a phone that makes no sound is a missed flight.
Does it work offline?
Yes, for alarms whose audio has already been generated. StartSmart renders and stores the audio on your phone in advance, so the morning itself needs no connection. Writing a new message does need one.
Is my voice recorded?
No. Dismissing an alarm by speaking uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. Nothing is recorded, nothing is stored, and no audio is transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Who writes the wake-up messages?
An AI model, from the goal and preferences you give it. The messages are generated automatically and are not reviewed by a person before you hear them, so they can occasionally be off. They are motivational content — not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice.
How do I cancel, or delete my data?
Cancel in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions; deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. To remove your data, use Settings → Your data inside StartSmart, which can export a JSON copy or clear your alarms and history. Everything StartSmart stores is on your device, so deleting the app removes the rest.
Should I rely on it as my only alarm?
Not where missing a wake-up would be serious. Whether any alarm sounds depends on your device's power, storage, volume, Focus settings and permissions — things outside our control. Keep a second alarm for the flight.
